With a population of 9.5 million, Kinshasa is the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The city is the third largest in the African continent after Cairo and Lagos and is one of the world’s largest French-speaking cities in the world, with French being the main language and Lingala being the common dialect.

Located along the southern bank of the Congo River facing Brazzaville, the capital of the neighbouring Republic of the Congo, Kinshasa and Brazzaville are the only two capitals in the world that are in direct view of one another.

Gombe

Gombe is a municipality in the district of Kinshasa and considered to be an upscale residential area and the main business district. Kin Plaza Arjaan by Rotana is nestled in the heart of Gombe and is roughly 45 minutes from N'djili International Airport by car.

Things to do in Kinshasha

When you make the journey all the way to Kinshasha, you should make the most to get out and explore. This part of the Democratic Congo rewards you with some beautiful sights, such as the Livingstone Falls and the Pool Malebo.

Livingstone Falls

The Livingston Falls are a series of 32 rapids and cataracts with a total drop of 850 feet (260 metres), Located on the Congo River and beginning roughly 100 miles inland, the falls stretch for about 220 miles between Kinshasha and Matadi. The falls were named after the Scottish explorer David Livingstone. Another explorer, Sir Henry Morton Stanley, gave them the falls their name after crossing them in 1877.

Malebo Pool

Formerly known as the Stanley Pool, the Malebo Pool is an expansion of the lower Congo River above Livingstone Falls. The pool, which is like a lake, covers 174 square miles and is 52 feet (16 metres) deep at its most profound point. Bamu Island, in the centre, splits the pool into channels that can be navigated. Brazzaville occupies the north-western shore of the pool, whereas Kinshasha occupies the south-west one.
